Rhubarb Pie

Ooops I did it again. After my famous apple pie there's another simple, quick, seasonal fix for a spring rainy (again) Sunday.

This recipe is from my mom. The holly rule of 5:

5 eggs
5 tbs plain flour
5 tbs sugar
5 tbs oil
lemon zest
vanilla extract
pinch of salt
backing powder
+ rhubarb (can be replaced by any other juicy fruit: strawberries, peaches, plums...)

First you separate the eggs.
Mix the yolks, 3 tbs sugar, the lemon zest and the vanilla and stir until the sugar melts.
Separately beat the eggs whites with the remaining 2 tbs sugar and pinch of salt to a soft foam.
Gently add the foam to the yolks, add the oil and consecutively the flour. Each spoon at the time. It's really important that the dough stays fluffy. Last mix one tee spoon baking powder with lemon juice or vinegar and add it to the dough. Stir gently.

Pre-heat the oven.
Grease the backing form with butter or oil, tap with flour.
Pour the dough into the form and gently add the rhubarb.

Bake until it turns gold.

I can only say that I saved the half to photograph after a very very tight fight! Again it was suuuper lecker!

Sunday walk #1 Belgium

I never make big resolution on New Year's Eve only say out loud some wishes, like: I wished we go out in nature more, I wished we move out (ok - this is a big one but I'm sure it will happen this year), buy more flowers, eat less cheese...this kind of stuff.

So, one of my wishes is to go outdoor more. We both like nature, hiking, walking, discovering new places. The first destination this year was in Belgium. Ohhh...I love Belgium!!! Not only because they speak French but also for the beer (one of our must go destinations in Belgium are the supermarkets :) and the must do is bring home some stocks. I don't drink much alcohol, but when I do I go for something special and the fruty Belgian beer in champagne like bottle is my thing. In bars the beer is served in the most beautiful glasses ever...

Besides that we made tour in a beautiful reservation then headed to the lovely little town Tongeren - the oldest town in Belgium, had a beer in an local old-fashion brewery, snapped some pictures...and left with the feeling that we'll be coming back :)

Happy New Year!

We welcomed the new year in the city center, on a bridge over the Rhine that offered a magnificent view! We made new wishes, thanked 2012 and under a strong wind - of change?! :) kissed and hope for a better, luckier year!

Wish you all a happy new year full of smiling faces and sweet moments!

Wintery feeling

The warm days of golden autumn are long gone. It has been rainy and grey-ish all week, but this morning - a total surprise. It's snowing!!! Like in fairy tales :)

I really don't like winter, but the snow (which, by the way is not something usual in west Germany) made me jump out of the bed with such joy!

So, let it snow, let it snow!

Easter Reloaded

Instagram

This is the last post about Easter, I promise. As I am Romanian, my family and friends back home are celebrating Easter tomorrow and via Facebook I get slowly back into the mood. I am not that religious and for me Easter meant more new clothes from the Bunny, spring holidays and mandatory colored eggs.

Another old tradition from Transylvania is the "the sprinkle" (it's so funny, I don't even know how to translate in English). In rural communities on the second day of Easter the youngsters went through the village to sprinkle with water the women in the family and the girls they liked, offering their best wishes. The water was used as a sign of fertility and abundance. The boys received traditional Easter food (lamb, cakes) and of course colored eggs and strong drinks.

Nowadays it's used perfume instead of water and if you received on of the visitors you will have luck all year round. I liked it so much as a teenager because everyone was allowed to stay out late :)

And with this the Easter fever is over.

My Milk Tooth

Rabbit is way too curious (Instagram)

No doubt one of my favorite blogs is My Milk Tooth. ickle and Lardee are the most adorable cute little guys that one can imagine. Each new post makes me melt. They are so adorable, the story is always catchy and the details are unbelievable sweet. I was joking with a friend saying that you can get toothache so sweet they are.

I gave the book to my boyfriend as Christmas gift and it was one of the best choices I ever made. Look at Rabbit, he can't get his eyes off the book. It really makes a great present for friends and kids. I will buy it for sure again also to support the artist and keep the story on. She is doing such an amazing job!

Rush

Instagram

I managed to get some things done: the postcards - usually the most fun part but the most messy one, cleaning, landlords visits, baking a cake (mix of Sachertorte and Death by chocolate - results?! for sure it looks yummy) and of course the not so fun part of cleaning again the kitchen after baking a chocolate cake. For sure I need to better plan my work flow :/

As I'm in Germany and every Holiday is holy all shops were close today. So I will have to leave the eggs colouring for tomorrow morning as I had no paint. Maybe that's good otherwise I wouldn't have time to write this post...Oh was that positive thinking? OMG I'm making progresses

Easter fever

Instagram

As it wouldn't be enough to be sick, I also have a loooong to do list to finish before even start thinking of Easter! Each at it's time. First a handkerchief, than a ginger tee snuggling under the covers and so on...
